Mayan Climate Prediction

Some politicians are still trying to deny the science behind climate change...well it seems this is something the Mayans knew about hundreds of years ago.

It was day six and we travelled to a place about an hour outside of Cuernavaca called Xochicalco (So-shee-cal-co). There we embarked on a sweltering tour under one of the hottest days so far through ancient ruins. They were built over a thousand years ago by the Xochicalca people. Our tour guide, Cesar, said after the Xochicalca´s time the ruins were inhabited by the Mayans.

Well deep inside one of the ancient caves was a hole. The sun came in through this hole to create almost a perfect circle. Cesar says the Xochicalca and the Mayans used the circle of light as a time telling tool. And at night it was used for star gazing.

A big theme among both civilizations is the reality of two universal life forces..one positive and one negative. Cesar said the Mayans predicted in the year 2012 both universal forces would meet...and that would create chaotic weather changes. As the forces got closer together the change in weather would become more noticeable. In the year 2012 the two forces would meet by December 21´st, the winter solstice, and a full blown climate shift would begin. Hmmm did the Mayans know something some people are still debating?

Anyway Cesar told us to prepare for the catastrophic change by learning to breathe deeply and by exposing ourselves to the sun for at least a half hour each day. He called it a climate storm that will last untill the year 2027...fifteen years!

But isn´t climate change a direct cause of human activity? How could the Mayans have predicted world wide climate change almost a thousand years ago? How could they have predicted human activity? I´m left with more questions than answers.

Anyway Cesar went on to say his government knows about the predcitions and there´s evidence of it on the diaz coin (ten peco coin). Apparently the symbol of the postive and the negative are side by side with a triangle -representing a climax- in between.

I suppose only time will tell...but many would agree signs of truth to the prediction are everywhere.
